West Side Gallery — art at the western gateway to Berlin #
At the Stadteingang West, right by Grunewald S-Bahn station and on the edge of the Grunewald forest, a place for contemporary art and urban culture is taking shape: the West Side Gallery. Whoever enters Berlin from the west sees it first — art you don’t have to look for, art that comes to meet you.
The name is both a programme and a nod: where the East Side Gallery in the east turned the Wall into a canvas, here in the west the wall by the railway becomes a gallery. Two worlds under one roof — an art house with curated rotating exhibitions and an open spray gallery along the tracks, whose works the public itself votes on.

Two ways to show art #
The West Side Gallery deliberately relies on contrast. Inside, in the art house, the curated: selected, hung, for sale. Outside, by the railway, the democratic: anyone can spray, the public decides. No contradiction, but two sides of the same idea — art belongs in public space, not only in storage.

Our principle: Art you see from a train window belongs to everyone. We are not building a white cube behind closed doors, but a gallery that is part of the city — at its most visible edge.
